April Who’s DDM?
We celebrate 2 more birthdays this month. Spark Plug turns 3 and The Destroyer turns 2. This month will always be a reminder that Hubby and I, along with all of Mother Nature’s creatures, gave birth in Spring. A lot. Twice in one year. Like Britney Spears did, only she did it in the Fall.
I think back to 2006 and 2007 and wonder, what the hell happened? We had Spark Plug and all was not too bad. She was a very challenging baby. She kept me up all night in the hospital before we even got home. After the first couple of months we thought, we will NEVER do this again. No more babies after this one. We think.

The story goes like this- Hubby and I were so busy with EvieG and Miss Demanding that we didn’t get around to making an appointment for him to get snipped, as they say. Then it was time to go on a bit of a holiday once we got into somewhat of a routine with the 2 Wee Ladies. It was August and Spark Plug had just turned 4 months old. We needed a bit of a getaway. We travelled to Northern Ontario and I don’t know what the heck happened up there in the wilderness, but Mother Nature got to us again and we came home with another baby on the way.
I went to the gym one morning, as usual, and while I was waiting for my class to start, I went down to the grocery store and bought a pregnancy test. Just to see. I was a few days off schedule, which I knew was nothing out of the ordinary, all things considered. I kind of knew…. I had been through it twice before. I went into the bathroom at the gym and peed on the stick. As I leaned against the stall door for support, I stared at the 2 pink lines. Good thing the toilet was right there because I felt like I was going to vomit. In a daze, I tucked the test into my gym bag and headed to my class. As my friend waited for me, I sat down on my bench, staring off into the fluorescent lights above. She asked if I was feeling okay and told me I looked a bit pale. I said, “Uh, huh.” We carried on with our class and she stared at me occasionally to make sure I didn’t fall over with 12 kg of weights on top of me.
I cried and ate for a week straight. I had taken off most of the pregnancy weight from Spark Plug, but I thought, no harm in getting started on those muffins again! I was in shock. I told my boss before my mom. I had to go back to work for a little while so that I could get my hours to go back on maternity leave. AGAIN! My friend who was with me at the gym knew something was up…. she couldn’t believe it either. She couldn’t believe that I went through the whole class that day at the gym without saying a word.
The Destroyer came along shortly after Spark Plug turned 1. We have never looked back. We are very lucky to have her. She is the third best thing ever. She is the icing on the cake.
And this month, it’s two cakes.
And for the record, there will be no more surprise birthdays. Ever again. Unless I am that 1 in 2000, according to my doctor. I made sure Hubby made and went to his appointment. And did the follow-up.
All’s I’m sayin’s all.
